Letters To The Mountain

Cover and Interior Design | EBOOK

CLIENT: Anya Wyers | The Self Publishing Agency
PROJECT DATE: May 2019

Anya Wyers is a writer and blogger living in Port Moody, British Columbia. Letters to the Mountain is her memoir and first book. Anya writes her story as a collection of letters written to her best friend, Rachael, describing her struggles growing up in a small northern town with a dysfunctional family. Anya has her best friend to thank for helping her break the cycle of abuse and deal with the shadows of her past. However, it isn't clear why Anya is writing to Rachael until the end, and what happened to bring Anya to where she is today.

The theme of Anya's story as well as her book title was a great starting point for her book design. While Anya had some ideas, she was excited to see the concepts I created, and enthusiastically chose the final cover design. I was inspired by the idea of topographical maps which hint at the idea of mountainous landscapes without being too literal. The delicate pattern is interwoven with handwritten phrases taken from Anya's letters, and they create a beautiful layered effect that is feminine without being girly.

Working with Laura was easy and straightforward. Right from the beginning, I felt like she cared about me and my project, and connected with me on a level that transferred to the cover design of my book. She was always prompt and easy to deal with, and quickly responsive to questions and comments. We worked very well together and consistently met or beat the deadlines for our project together. I would work with her again in a heartbeat!
