The 5-Step Design Process
Curious about what it’s like to work with a professional designer? My goal is to make it simple for you, and that starts with clear communication.
Choosing to work with a graphic designer with over 15 years of experience means you get to jump straight into a simple process that’s been tweaked and tested. It means your project will flow smoothly, and as always, there is room to adjust when needed. Here are the 5 steps you can expect to follow when working with a professional designer.
1) A complimentary consultation.
For a free consultation about your design project, I ask a few simple questions about your business needs in my contact form. The more details you can share there, the sooner we can start creating.
I’ll email you within one business day to set up your complimentary 30 minute consultation over Skype or the phone. We’ll chat about your business goals, your expectations for your design project, and any questions you might have. It’s the perfect opportunity to see if we’re a good fit!
2) Quote and contract.
Within 48 hours of our chat, you’ll have a customized quote in your inbox. It will outline your project goals and fees and you’ll know exactly what to expect by the end of your project, including working files, artwork, and documentation.
Before we begin working, we’ll both sign a contract. I’ve had a template drafted by an attorney and designed to protect both of us throughout our project. It’s easy to understand and once we both sign it, we’ll store it in the cloud for easy access.
I require a 50% non refundable deposit before we can move further into our project. This holds your spot on my schedule and gets things rolling!
3) Discovery, research, and analysis.
After our consultation, I will probably have some more specific questions for you about your business, your target market, your competitors, and your goals, depending on your project. From here, I will take the information you provide and do more in-depth research as necessary.
As we move forward, I’ll share a timeline for the design and development process with you so you’ll know when to expect a check-in and how your feedback will be incorporated into your project.
4) Design and development.
As I’m digging through my research and working on your designs, you can relax or work on other aspects of business that need your attention! You’ve hired an expert to take care of your project’s design, so your time is your own.
At check-in time, we’ll chat about the progress on your project and you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions and offer feedback. I’ll make adjustments where they’re needed and you’ll get to see where your project stands!
By this point, you’ll be so excited to see what your designs look like that you’ll be counting down the hours until deadline! I’ll send you the files we agreed to in your contract, like print and web files and instructions for how to use them.
Then it’s time to pop some champagne and celebrate!
But wait, this isn’t the end! I’m always here to answer questions that come up post-project (and they usually do). Don’t hesitate to reach out – your success is my success!
